 PICK UP and DROP OFF

Dear DHS seniors and families,

One of our processes for closing this school year amid abruptly leaving the school building is returning personal belongings from lockers and returning school materials. BCPS has afforded us the days of June 12 and June 15th for this process. Our goal is to make this a one-time drop off and pick up of materials. In addition, we would like to provide your graduate with an opportunity to take one final photograph to memorialize this important moment in their life. Graduates will have the option of wearing their cap and gown when they pick up their diploma at the last. DHS has worked with Lifetouch and will be providing each graduate with a 5x7 print and families will have access to the photo online. The photos will be mailed directly to your homes once printed! Family members must remain in the vehicle while the graduate secures their diploma and is photographed.

Due to the large amount of distribution, we will not be able to accommodate distributing several students’ personal belongings to one person. You/your child will only be able to pick up their own possessions.

In order to protect yourself and our staff, please be sure to wear your face covering when you come to school. If you drive to the school, remain in your vehicle unless you are directed to exit. If you walk to school always stay at least six feet away from other persons. Please. do not bring children or friends with you; leave children at home under the supervision of other family members, if possible. Finally, if you are ill or under isolation or quarantine because of your own illness or that of a close contact, please do not come to school. Please contact the school to make alternative arrangements.

Also attached is a created map to show the flow of traffic each day. There will be plenty of signage, but Drivers SHOULD NOT enter the bus loop as normal, but proceed to the North East End of the parking lot by the practice fields (SEE MAP AT BOTTOM OF PAGE). Again, will be staff and signage to help guide you through this process.

There will be several stations that will include the return of Devices/Device bags/device chargers, uniforms, text books, library books, instruments, etc., but the most important are the first and last stations:

FIRST STATION – Check-In

· This first stop will be marked with a cone, a sign and will have a staff person checking your name to expedite the process.

· If you can, please print the student’s first/last name in dark ink on a large piece of paper and place it on the dashboard.

LAST STATION – Diplomas and Awards

· Distribution of diplomas, awards, etc.

· An in-person celebration will be explored when it is safe to do so; however, students will have the opportunity to have their picture taken at the school by a staff member as they pick up their diploma at a table. Students may wear their cap and gown.

· School leadership will communicate with families regarding access to student photos.

· The graduate will be the only person allowed to get out for the photo

· Family members must remain in the vehicle while the graduate secures their diploma and is photographed.

GENERAL REMINDERS

· Remain in your car.

· If you are able to open your trunk without getting out of your car, our staff will retrieve your child’s school property from the trunk. (preferred)

· If you are unable to open your trunk without getting out of your car, our staff will retrieve your child’s school property from the back seat.

The one-time distribution and collection schedule is provided below. Please adhere to your assigned date and time frame. We understand that there may be mitigating circumstances like work or travel that may come into play which we will be flexible as best we can!
