  • Sojourner Truth was an American abolitionist and a civil and women’s rights activist.

  • Was also a former slave in New York and escaped in 1926

  • Isabella Baumfree had her name changed to Sojourner Truth and devoted her life the abolition of slavery

  • Sojourner Truth’s memoirs were published ; The Narrative of Sojourner Truth: A Northern Slave in 1850

  • Gave her famed “Ain’t I a Woman” at the 1851 Ohio Women’s Rights Convention.

  • Sojourner Truth led many slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad
