UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA JEFFERSON SCHOLARSHIP

Full tuition. Must be nominated. Criteria: SAT 1400, exceptional extra-curricular and leadership experience. See Mrs. Thompson if you are interested.

WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN AWARD

Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2009-20010 academic year who have at least a “B: grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. To apply visit www.wendysheisman.com .

PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS

National competition for outstanding community service. One nominee per school. To apply, fill out an online application form at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.principals.org/prudential (access key: spirit). Once the form has been completed online, it must be printed out, signed and submitted to Mrs. Thompson in the guidance office by October 30, 2009. The counselors will then select one student for nomination.

COMCAST LEADERS AND ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

$1,000 award. Must be nominated. Employees of Comcast and their families are not eligible. Criteria: GPA of 2.8 or higher, demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences; strong commitment to community service involvement. If interested in being nominated, see Mrs. Thompson in the guidance office.

Deadline: November 16, 2009.

FOUNDATION FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS IN EDUCATION (FIRE) SCHOLARSHIP

Up to $5,000 awards. Essay. To apply visit www.thefire.org/contests

UNITED STATES SERVICE ACADEMIES

Criteria: Minimum SAT score of 1140 (reading & math) or ACT score of 26 or higher, GPA of 3.0 or higher, three letters of recommendation, residency in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District. If you are interested in applying for a nomination to a U. S. Service Academy, please call Karen Willis in the Congressman’s Centreville office at 443-262-9136.

2009-10 PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP AWARD (PLA)

Scholarships range from $1,000 to $12,000. Only one senior may be nominated. Criteria: participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience, and academic record. To be considered for nomination, you must complete the nomination form online at www.principals.org/PLA and give it to your counselor for consideration.

Deadline: November 16, 2009.

OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO! COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

$5,000 award. High school senior that understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer with a scholarship award. Applications are available in the guidance office or visit www.ohtheplaces.org Entries must be postmarked by February 15, 2010.

COCA-COLA SCHOLARS FOUNDATION

$3 million a year in scholarships to 250 deserving students. Visit www.coca-colascholars.org to apply.

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION 2010 MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
