  • Research (collegeboard.com)
  • Identify colleges of interest.
  • Be sure list includes “safe” schools as well as “reach” and “realistic” schools.
  • Contact colleges/go online for applications and college catalogs.
  • If needed, request teacher/counselor recommendations. Include an activity resume with your request. This will help teacher/counselor highlight your accomplishments.
  • Teacher recommendations are mailed to colleges directly by teachers or students. Provide the teacher with a stamped, addressed envelope for each college. In some instances teachers may give you the letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope to mail directly to the college.
  • Meet with college representatives who visit Dulaney this fall.
  • Make an appointment with your counselor to review transcript requests. Bring application’s “Secondary School Report” to your meeting (counselor’s page). Official transcripts will be mailed directly from Dulaney to the admissions offices of your choice. Policy precludes no “hand carried” official transcripts. Transcript mailings include final grades (9-11), senior courses in progress, SAT and/or ACT test scores, a school profile, and a description of GT courses. The overall package is duplicated with every application.
  • Meet application/transcript deadlines. The guidance and record departments need at least one week to process your transcript requests. The first 3 transcripts are free. Additional transcripts cost $5.00 each and should be paid for at time of request. ( Scholarship transcripts, mid-year transcripts and final transcripts are free.)
  • Request College Board to send official (if required) SAT/AP scores to college admissions.
  • Complete an authorization to Release Student Records Form.
